Ground Penetrating Radar

Ground Penetrating Radar

ERA SPR

The ERA SPR system is a powerful tool for imaging through surfaces non-destructively.

The Radar based technology is able to penetrate through any non-conductive surface to detect targets of virtually any material.  The depth that this machine can go is limited by 2 factors; 1) Antenna being used; 2) Type of soil under investigation.  If the interests are primarily near the surface, a high resolution machine is needed.  However, there’re some systems which can go over 100 ft in depth with very limited resolution.  On the other hand, the radar signal is attenuated or absorbed differently in various soil conditions.  Clean and dry sand is the best condition of soil for an accurate reading.

Advantage of using Radar:

  • Non-destructive
  • Similar to having a test trench or boring along the whole length of the project
  • Easily deployed
  • No disturbance, i.e. noise
  • Can point out areas to test pit or sample bore rather than SWAG method, minimizing useless or misleading data
  • Applications and versatility have fewest limitations and greatest results fro non-destructive applications
